Portrait

The Swiss Association for Gender Studies (SAGS) is the principal professional organization in Gender Studies for Switzerland. It promotes gender studies in Switzerland in its unique theoretical and thematic diversity and represents its interests, particularly in Swiss politics of higher education.
Gender studies is an interdisciplinary and highly differentiated field of research: SAGS aims to institutionalize this diversity, to make it visible, but also to promote exchange and cooperation between gender researchers – both nationally and internationally. SAGS helps to ensure that gender research in Switzerland assumes an important role as an innovative field of knowledge.

Activities

We regularly organize scientific events – including a major conference every two years, as well as public round tables on topics on current feminist issues relevant to a broad audience.

We publish the book series “Gender Issues,” with two to three volumes published each year.

Every two years, SAGS awards the Brigitte Schnegg Prize for outstanding work in the field of gender studies that contributes to socio-political change.

With our thematic research networks, we promote professional exchange across institutions and language barriers on current themes in gender studies and feminist theory.
