Travel subsidies

International conferences are a forum for dialogue between the scientific community. We contribute to the travel costs of people from Swiss universities who attend conferences abroad.

Who is eligible for a subsidy?

People affiliated to a Swiss university

Subsidies are open to everyone from Master’s level to the age of 65 with the exception of professors. Applicants must be able to demonstrate that they are actively participating in the event. People who represent national organisations in international umbrella organisations can also apply. However, the same individual can apply no more than once every two years.

When should I apply?

At least two months before the conference

Applications can be made all year round, but no later than two months before the conference in question (the first day of the conference counts as the reference date). Applications should be submitted using the mySAGW online platform. They should include a detailed budget, evidence of active participation and a CV. You may also include the conference programme.

What costs does SAGW pay?

Travel and hotel costs

SAGW’s maximum contribution to costs is a lump-sum amount. This is 500 Swiss francs for conference venues within Europe and in certain countries on the Mediterranean (zone 1) and 1,000 Swiss francs for destinations further away (zone 2).

Once an application has been approved, the message Ready for settlement appears under Tasks. SAGW will only reimburse train fares, air fares and hotel costs; additional expenses (visas, taxis, meals, etc.) will not be paid. Payment will be made after the conference once the following have been submitted:

  • Breakdown of costs (third-party and own funds)
  • Receipts for travel expenses
  • Receipts for accommodation (a maximum of 150 francs per night can be claimed)
  • Participant’s report (one to two pages)
