Early Career Award
Each year, we make an award to three scientific articles by researchers in an early stage of their career. Applications are accepted from all humanities and social science disciplines. The total amount awarded is 18,000 Swiss francs.
What do awards recognise?
Outstanding scientific articles
The award is made to three articles of outstanding quality that have been published in a scientific publication format in Switzerland or another country. Monographs are not eligible for consideration.
Who can apply?
Scientists whose article was published no more than six years after they obtained their PhD
Applications are open to researchers with a PhD who were employed at a Swiss university at the time the article was published (nationality is not a consideration in this case). Applications are also open to anyone who held Swiss citizenship or a Swiss settlement or residence permit (regardless of where they were living or working) when the article was published. Teams of authors may also apply, provided all the applicants in the team fulfil the admission criteria.
The article submitted for the award must have been published no more than six years after the author(s) obtained their PhD (determined by the date of their viva and the date on which the article was first published). The six-year limitation may be extended in justified cases.
How do I apply?
We accept digital applications once a year
The invitation to apply is published each autumn on the SAGW website and in its newsletter. Once the invitation has been published, applications can be submitted via the mySAGW online platform. The final closing date for applications is as given in the invitation.
