What does the award recognise?

Outstanding scientific articles

The award recognises three recently published articles in Switzerland or abroad that stand out for their high quality and ability to inspire beyond disciplinary boundaries. Monographs are not eligible.

For the edition 2027 the article must have been published between 1 October 2025 and 31 October 2026.

Who can apply?

Scientists whose article was published no more than six years after they had obtained their PhD

Applications are open to researchers with a PhD who were employed in Switzerland when their article was published, irrespective of nationality. Applications are also open to researchers with a PhD who held Swiss citizenship or a Swiss settlement or residence permit when their article was published, irrespective of where they were living or working. Teams of authors may also apply, provided that all the applicants in the team fulfil the admission criteria.

The six-year period is calculated from the date of the doctoral defence and the date on which the article was first published. This period may be extended in duly justified cases.

How do I apply?

We accept digital applications once a year

The call for applications is published each autumn. Once the call has been published, applications can be submitted via the mySAGW online platform. The deadline for submissions is specified in the call.
