Editions

SAGW currently funds eight long-term publishing projects. The project teams collect historical file records and publish manuscripts written by and records from the estates of important individuals. By doing so they make them accessible for research.

Collection of sources of Swiss law
Since 1898, the legal sources foundation of the Swiss lawyers’ association has been publishing a collection of sources of law produced in the territory of modern-day Switzerland. It comprises historical legal source material dating from the Middle Ages to the creation of the Helvetic Republic in 1798.

Cataloguing Switzerland’s mediaeval and Early Modern manuscripts
Switzerland’s libraries and archives hold important mediaeval manuscripts from all fields of knowledge of that age. It is planned to raise researchers’ awareness of the documents, which are held in locations scattered across the country. Two specialists record the source material and ensure that the catalogues are uniformly structured.

Basel Edition of the Bernoulli Correspondence
This edition contains the correspondence of eight members of the Bernoulli family of scholars and mathematicians as well as that of mathematician Jacob Hermann, who was closely associated with them. The correspondence covers the period from the late 17th to late 18th century.

Anton-Webern-Gesamtausgabe
This edition provides access to the entire oeuvre of Austrian composer and conductor Anton Webern (1883–1945). It also includes unpublished compositions, fragments, sketches, arrangements and revisions.

Kritische Robert-Walser-Ausgabe
This edition aims to provide a full record of the work of Robert Walser (1878–1956). Walser is regarded as one of the most important authors of modernist literature in Switzerland. All of Walser’s works are being edited using their first editions. Facsimiles of the surviving manuscripts will also be provided.

Historical and critical edition of the full works and correspondence of Jeremias Gotthelf
The aim of this edition is to provide access to the work and correspondence of the Lützelflüh pastor and author Albert Bitzius, alias Jeremias Gotthelf (1757–1824). The edition comprises both Gotthelf’s manuscripts and the printed versions published during his lifetime.

Karl Barth Complete Edition
The complete edition of the works of the Protestant theologian Karl Barth (1886–1968) gives researchers access to his writings. More than fifty volumes have been published since 1971. It is planned to publish 75.

Johann Caspar Lavater: Historical and critical edition of selected correspondence
This edition records the extensive correspondence of Zurich theologian and philosopher Johann Caspar Lavater (1741–1801). Over 23,000 letters are being recorded and digitised. The holding provides an insight into the communication networks of the 18th century.
