Organisation
SAGW is an umbrella organisation with independent association status. It has 63 member societies. The Delegates Assembly is SAGW's supreme governing body. The Board oversees business and provides strategic direction. Operational activities are the responsibility of the team in the General Secretariat.
Our mandate
SAGW is a member of the Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences. Its mandate is governed by Article 11 of the Federal Act on the Promotion of Research and Innovation (RIPA). Every four years, the Swiss Academies agree on a joint multi-annual plan and sign a service agreement with the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI).
Our services
We are committed to safeguarding knowledge and to dialogue between scientists and the public.
In pursuit of this commitment, we operate institutes that provide lexicons, dictionaries, information platforms and collections of source material. We fund long-term publishing projects. We subsidise member societies’ journals and series, conferences and communication formats. We represent our community’s interests towards the public. And we provide independent expertise for the political sphere, administration and the public.
