The SSMEIC supports and promotes research on the Middle East and North Africa region, as well as the diverse expressions and practices of Islam in Switzerland and worldwide. It facilitates collaboration among researchers and strives to make their research findings accessible to both the academic community and the wider public. Established in 1990, the SSMEIC has been a member of the Swiss Academy of Humanities and Social Sciences since 1995.
