Almanach No. 3
Almanach brings together a selection of texts produced through our journalistic writing mentorship programme, which supports researchers in sharing their research with a wider audience.
The cover of this third issue is taken from a sequence in Scenes of Extraction, a film by artist and filmmaker Sanaz Sohrabi. A PhD candidate at the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies in Society and Culture at Concordia University in Montreal, she has conducted extensive research in archives in Iran and the United Kingdom. There, she collected and analysed not only data, but also, and above all, visual documents illustrating geological processes. In her film, archival materials come to life: still photographs and film excerpts, including footage from documentaries produced by oil companies, are superimposed with maps and seismograms.
