Dodis – Diplomatic Documents of Switzerland

he Dodis research centre is the centre of excellence for studies in the history of Swiss foreign policy since 1848. The primary task of Dodis and the focal point of its activities is to publish Diplomatic Documents of Switzerland, a printed record of documents on file.

Mandate and services

The Dodis research group prepares editions of selected source material from the Swiss Federal Archives once the statutory safeguard period has expired. The documents can be used to trace the guiding principles of Swiss foreign policy and develop new areas of research. In addition to the printed edition, which is published each January, Dodis publishes the documents online in a connected, searchable format. The institute also communicates its findings to a broader audience in publications, media items and events.

Dodis was founded in 1975 as the National Commission on the Release of Diplomatic Documents. The institute has been a long-term undertaking of SAGW since 2000. Its staff are SAGW employees.
