«Quality of Educational Interventions. Transforming Systems and Practices»

For several decades, the concept of quality has been central to the analysis of education systems. Yet it is far from unambiguous: its definition, uses, and implications remain widely debated. Sometimes grounded in large-scale international assessments (PISA, TIMSS), sometimes used as a steering tool for education systems, quality relates as much to a normative perspective (controlled interventions, evidence-based research) as to an interpretive perspective (situational analyses initiated by educational stakeholders). The digital transformation of practices, from learning analytics to generative artificial intelligence, has further turned quality into an issue of measurement, visibility, and regulation, while also raising ethical questions.

A decade after the 2015 conference held in St. Gallen on discourses on quality, the Annual congress of the Swiss society for Research in Education 2027 (SSRE/SGBF, in partnership with SSFE/SGL) invites participants to revisit this issue: in the face of growing pressure to guarantee the efficiency of educational practices and of the goal of ensuring quality education for all, what means do we have at our disposal to analyse, evaluate, and make visible the relevance of interventions in education, teaching, and training? The conference will foster dialogue between the explicit use of tools and methods for analysing quality and the reliance on more implicit standards that guide decision-making and transform practices in Switzerland and internationally.
