The Institute of Educational Science at the Faculty of Educational Sciences of the University of Innsbruck is seeking to fill a university professorship in General Educational Science in accordance with § 98 of the University Act (UG). The employment relationship, governed by private law and based on the Employees Act, will be established with the University for an indefinite term. The position is a full-time (100%) position. Your Responsibilities

The professorship represents General Education Science in research and teaching. It is dedicated to the description and analysis of processes of upbringing, education, and socialization, as well as their societal, cultural, and social conditions. Its focus encompasses both central theories, terms, and concepts of pedagogical thought and institutions of pedagogical practice, including the dynamics of social change to which they are subject. The professorship is well-established in the theoretical and empirical debates of general educational science and contributes to its further development in research and theory-building. It advocates a conception of general educational science that takes into account, engages with, and connects the diversity of both educational realities and research perspectives.

Furthermore, the professorship places special emphasis on the shaping of pedagogical relationships and care relationships. The actors in both private and public spaces of childhood and adolescence are to be examined, and pedagogical relationships as well as care relationships in intra- and extra-familial contexts are to be analyzed from theoretical-systematic, cultural, or historical-comparative perspectives and empirically investigated with regard to the well-being and opportunities for participation of children and adolescents.

In terms of teaching, the professorship is responsible for delivering an academically rigorous introduction to and in-depth exploration of fundamental issues in educational science across all teaching formats and at all levels (BA, MA, PhD). It participates in the supervision of all types of academic theses.

The professorship is part of the General Educational Science and Historical Educational Research division. Collaboration with other teaching and research divisions within the Institute of Educational Science, as well as participation in faculty-level and interdisciplinary research initiatives and doctoral programs, is expected. Active involvement in academic self-governance and in working groups at the institute and faculty levels is another integral part of the responsibilities, including the willingness and ability to assume leadership roles.

Employment Requirements

a. A German or equivalent foreign university degree in educational science (doctorate) appropriate to the position

b. Relevant teaching qualification (habilitation in educational science) or an equivalent achievement on par with a habilitation

c. High-quality publications in relevant, peer-reviewed journals and from renowned academic publishers

d. Demonstrated expertise in general educational science in both research and teaching

e. Networking and collaboration with national and international research groups in educational science

f. Evidence of successfully securing competitive external funding, as well as experience in managing externally funded projects

g. Experience in science communication and knowledge transfer

h. Excellent teaching skills, experience with various teaching formats and supervising theses, as well as teaching at different levels of the degree program; experience in mentoring early-career researchers

i. Interpersonal skills, leadership skills, as well as experience and willingness to participate in university self-governance

j. Proficiency in German (as a non-native language) at the C1 level according to the CEFR and willingness to teach courses in English when necessary.

This position is classified in pay grade A1 of the collective bargaining agreement for university employees and carries a minimum monthly salary of 6,713.30 (paid 14 times per year).
