Distopía del Desarrollo Vial. La carretera Interoceánica y sus voces

Luis Eduardo Pérez Peralta, University of Bern

Abstract

This ethnographic essay (re)interprets the fabric of Peruvian society through a sociopolitical and historical analysis of the country’s major national and international highways. The South Interoceanic Highway and the notion of development as portrayed by citizens, the press, and the state are the focus of the book’s analysis and discussion. Dystopia of Road Development thus reveals the discursive arguments used by various governments to promote the construction of road megaprojects, highlighting the contemporary Latin American debate on transportation and communication networks and political-cultural integration.
