Grant opportunities

The SSLAS contributes to the travel expenses of our members and early-career researchers who attend conferences in Switzerland and abroad.

Conference / Workshop Grant

Every year, the SSLAS facilitates applications to the SAGW Conference Grant. Any member of the SSLAS can apply. The event must be carried out at a Swiss institution.

Co-funding requirement: the SAGW can only finance up to 50% of the foreseen expenses – so you need to have secured additional sources of funding (e.g. through your personal grant or department) in order to apply.

Amount: Applications amounts to the SAGW generally range between 2,000 and 8,000 CHF on a match-funding basis.

Apply: In order to apply to the next round, please send us the completed attached form (see bellow)

Timeline:

Applications need to be sent by January the previous year in order to organize an event the following year. Reminders will be sent to those registered in our mailing list.

Reporting: Please note that initially you will only receive 2/3 of the requested amount. In order to receive the last 1/3, upon conclusion of the event, you will be required to submit a final report by creating a profile on the mySAGW portal. The final report includes a descriptive summary of the event, an overview of all expenses, and the scans of all the invoices (including the 50% financed by the SAGW as well as the other 50%).

Please note: You need to be an active member of the SSLAS and have paid your annual membership in order to apply for this opportunity.

Travel Grant

The SAHSS supports early-career researchers (PhDs and Post-Docs) working in Switzerland with contributions towards travel and accommodation costs for active participation in scientific conferences abroad.

Any early-career researcher, regardless of whether they belong to the SSLAS or not, can apply for funding. Applicants must carry out the majority of their academic work in Switzerland. Their nationality or place of residence is irrelevant. Accommodation costs are reserved exclusively for junior researchers, whereby the SAGW will not reimburse more than CHF 150 per day.

Amount: For conference venues in Europe and in some Mediterranean countries (zone 1) a lump sum of CHF 500 can be applied for, for more distant destinations (zone 2) a lump sum of CHF 1,000. The amounts are transferred after the event upon submission of receipts.

Timeline: On a rolling basis, minimum 2 months before the event
