Symposium 2018 on the topic: What is the Mind?

In 2018, the International Symposium of the Swiss Philosophical Society took place in Basel.

150 philosophers from around the world, from Argentina to Taiwan, gathered at the Kollegienhaus of the University of Basel and for the ceremonial event in the Great Hall of the Musik-Akademie to address the question: What is the Mind?

The keynote lectures were delivered by Sabina Lovibond (Oxford), Grit Schwarzkopf (Heidelberg), Gian Francesco Giudice (CERN), and Alexandrine Schniewind (Lausanne).

During the ceremonial event, in addition to the presidential address by Gunnar Hindrichs (Basel), the world premiere of Dániel Péter Biró’s composition Scholium II took place. The work engages with Spinoza’s book On the Mind (De Mente) and was performed by ensemble aisthesis and Schola Heidelberg under the direction of Walter Nussbaum. The composition was commissioned by the Swiss Philosophical Society.
