Euxeinos. The Journal of the Swiss Academic Association for East European Studies (SAEES) is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal published by the Swiss Academic Association for East European Studies. It provides a dynamic platform for interdisciplinary research on Eastern, Central, and Southeastern Europe, fostering inclusive and collaborative dialogue on the region’s historical, cultural, political, economic, and social dimensions. The journal’s name, derived from Pontos Euxeinos (hospitable sea), reflects its commitment to openness and exchange.

General Information of the Journal

The journal offers a broad range of cutting-edge research articles and book reviews that examine the rich tapestry of Eastern, Central Eastern and Southeastern European studies from a multidisciplinary perspective. Its mission is to enhance global understanding of the region’s evolving socio-political dynamics, historical legacies, and contemporary transformations. Each issue features scholarly contributions from international experts, including in-depth analyses and insights from guest editors.

Through its open-access model, Euxeinos offers a unique platform for both established and emerging scholars to share their insights, fostering a deeper, more nuanced appreciation of Eastern, Central Eastern and Southeastern Europe's significance in the global context. The journal also aims to promote networking between scholars in Switzerland, Eastern, Central Eastern and Southeastern Europe and beyond, facilitating deeper engagement with the region's complexities. The journal is a double-blind peer-reviewed academic journal providing a top-notch platform for interdisciplinary research on Eastern, Central Eastern and Southeastern Europe. Authors can submit individual articles, while guest editors can propose thematic sections with a maximum of five articles. The journal publishes different formats, including research articles, book reviews and features on the academic life of the Swiss Academic Association for East European Studies. Additionally, Euxeinos welcomes research articles of exceptional quality from early career researchers and MA students enrolled at Swiss universities working on, with, and from the perspective of Eastern, Central Eastern and Southeastern and Slavic studies, with all submissions reviewed by the editorial board.

Euxeinos. The Journal of the Swiss Academic Association for East European Studies is published with the financial support of the Swiss Academic Society for Humanities and Social Sciences (SAGW), as well as the Center for Governance and Culture in Europe at the University of St. Gallen (GCE-HSG).

The journal’s editorial team is led by the current SAEES president Prof. Dr. Sylvia Sasse as Editor-in-Chief, together with Dr. Alexander Meienberger serving as Co-Editor. The inter- and transdisciplinary editorial board team includes scholars from leading Swiss universities, specializing in Eastern, Central Eastern and Southeastern European studies, ensuring a comprehensive representation of the diverse Swiss academic landscape.
