Membership
SAUTE offers its members various opportunities to profit from and contribute to the vibrant scholarly community in Swiss English studies, to cultivate a comprehensive network of colleagues in Switzerland, and to access a wide variety of funding sources.
The system is currently not available
Advantages of Membership
- You are invited to scholarly events (conferences, workshops, etc.) organised by SAUTE as well as the SAUTE annual general meeting.
- You can send and receive emails from the SAUTE mailing list, the most comprehensive channel for communicating news and announcements regarding conferences, workshops, job availabilities, etc. in Swiss English studies.
- You are entitled to apply for several funding sources, ranging from ECR travel grants and book awards to substantial funding for organising conferences and other events. Importantly, SAUTE membership enables you to apply for funding from the European Society of English Studies (ESSE) and the Swiss Academy of Humanities and Social Sciences (SAGW) that is otherwise inaccessible. Further details are available on the Funding Opportunities page.
How to Join
SAUTE membership is open to persons who teach or are engaged in scholarly activities in the field of English Studies or related fields and who have, or have had, a professional link to a Swiss institution of higher education in the past or present.
If you want to join, you should submit a bionote of 250 to 350 words and a one or two-page CV to the President of SAUTE, in electronic form. Make sure that you also include a current postal and email address within the document. This dossier will be distributed to all SAUTE members for the AGM.
Please make sure that applications reach the president at least ten days before the annual meeting (usually in May/June), when your application will be considered by the assembled members. Proposed members who have been screened by the president are traditionally invited to attend the annual meeting concerned.
The 2027 AGM will take place on Thursday, 11 June in Lausanne. Applications should therefore be submitted at the latest by Monday 01 June.
Membership Fee
The regular membership fee is CHF 60.- (Voluntary contributions in excess of the regular fee are added to the SAUTE Travel and Resources Award for early career researchers.)
Further information concerning the payment of membership fees is available here.
