SUMMARY:Arab futuristic shorts
DESCRIPTION:A screening organised by the Black Movie Festival, in collabora
tion with Manazir and in partnership with SGMOIK, as part of the RECTO VERS
O event cycle 2025–2026 of the Swiss Academy of Humanities and Social Scien
ces.\n\nIn cinema, there are now films that are part of the ‘Arab futurism’
phenomenon, just as there are Afrofuturist and Latin Futurist films. These
works use narratives to explore the future of countries and regions often
shown from a documentary perspective, rarely through the prism of genre. A
sign of a future that had previously been confiscated, this revival of scie
nce fiction can also be seen as an act of resistance that refuses to accept
resignation in the face of geopolitical dead ends.\n\nProgrammed in collab
oration with the Manazir platform, here are five short films from various s
ources that explore futuristic Arab themes. In addition to the films by Mah
a Maamoun and Fadi Baki, there will be an emphasis on the works of Palestin
ian director Larissa Sansour, who already has an impressive track record in
  contemporary art circles.\n\nGrütli Langlois (Geneva)16.01.2026, 18:30\n\n

Manazir and the Festival Black Movie, supported by SAGW within the Recto Ve
rso series exploring the theme “Future.”\n\nMore info : https://blackmovie.
