The SAHS is an association of about 60 scientific organisations. The president of each scientific organisation and one further delegate take part in the annual general assemby where amongst other tasks the 18 members of the board of directors are being elected. Board of director-meetings are held four times a year. The standing committee is handling preparatory steps to important matters.

Delegates represent the SAHS in partner organisations.

The secretariat-general employs 11 members of staff.
