University of Bern: Professorship in Social Sciences (open rank Associate Professor, Assistant Professor with tenure track)
The position is affiliated with the interdisciplinary Centre for Development and Environment (CDE) and fulfills duties primarily at the CDE. The candidate’s research should focus on sustainable societies. Areas of research could, for example, cover questions of consumption and sustainability, the diffusion of efficient renewable energy technologies, or environmental policy regulation to achieve sustainability goals. The sustainable management of public goods or cooperation and conflicts among the relevant stakeholders could also be a research focus. In terms of teaching responsibilities, the applicant will primarily contribute to the CDE’s interdisciplinary program.
Applicants from all social science disciplines, for example the disciplines currently represented at the Department of Social Sciences, are welcome. All applicants are required to have a PhD in Social Sciences. Applicants at the associate professor level are expected to have a Habilitation or a similar level of academic achievement. The applicant should have a successful research record including publications in prominent and internationally respected journals, as well as significant teaching experience. Research is expected to be relevant to current areas of focus in the Department of Social Sciences and the CDE. In addition, experience leading research teams in an interdisciplinary environment and a track record of rising research funding is expected.
